Art & Future: Energy, Climate, Cultures
Exhibition: Dunedin School of Art Gallery, 10-21 October 2016
A group exhibition coinciding with the Art & Future symposium: 14/15 October 2016
Camera in Operation is an etching, aquatint and screenprint displayed in the exhibition to inform the audience that there was in fact a camera in operation during the exhibition opening. The GoPro camera recorded the audience as they took away the poster, 1/1200 (after Duchamp) Limited edition: Take One, from the stack of 25 printed posters leaving 900 blank sheets of paper. The GoPro was mounted above the stack. Projected onto the stack is an inverted image of the poster giving the effect of a negative afterimage retained in your vision. Marcel Duchamp’s 1200 coal sacks from the 1938 Surrealist exhibition is used as a reference although the total number of 1200 hanging coal sacks was never confirmed.
