Carbon Remains
Medium: Charcoal on paper
280x 38 x 5cm
Carbon Remains proposes not only a drawing but a drawing methodology that seeks to share with the community my locally grown and produced charcoal stick made from the native fuchsia, kōtukutuku. The audience is invited to takeaway sticks and post drawings and comments on Instagram #carbonremains. Most drawing charcoal is imported, so this work offers a method of sustainable practice, with the residue creating an indexical drawing on the paper. The project is ephemeral in nature and the charcoal supply can be replenished.
